Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Althea May Brownville Stone, 89, wife of Dr. Eugene Carroll Stone, Jr., died peacefully at home on Monday, December 3, 2012. Mrs. Stone, daughter of Dr. Charles Gordon Brownville and Elizabeth Miller Brownville, was born in Needham, MA. She attended Wheaton College and then transferred to Wheelock College where she received her B.S. in Education; she taught preschool in Boston, MA. Mrs. Stone married her Wheaton College sweetheart, Carroll Stone, on December 15, 1943. As a Navy wife, she lived in New London, CT, San Francisco, CA and Honolulu, HI, before settling in Wellesley Hills, MA, where she again taught preschool. She and her family moved to Oxford, MS in 1964, where she taught at the First Presbyterian Church Kindergarten. Her greatest pleasures in life were her Lord and her family. She taught Sunday School and was active in the local churches she attended. She was a member of Covenant Church of North Mississippi and loved to participate in packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. As a child she spent summers on Cape Cod with her family. Later, she and her husband purchased a home on the Cape where they spent many happy summers with their five children and Mrs. Stone’s parents and siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Joan Brownville Abbott; and her daughter, Jeanne Stone Ramu. In addition to her loving husband of 69 years, Mrs. Stone is survived by her son, Terry Stone and his wife Jane of Beaufort, SC (formerly of Jackson, MS); three daughters, Sue Turner and Mae Stone of Oxford, MS, and Melanie Stone of Brewster, MA; two brothers, David Brownville and Gordon Brownville, and one sister, Betty Currie, all of Brewster, MA; five grandchildren, Chris and Tim Wright, Joshua Turner, Hannah Durham and Sarah Powers; and two great-grandchildren, Megan Wright and Carly Powers. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 5, 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and prior to the service, 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford, MS. Services will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Coleman Funeral Home followed by graveside service at the Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
