Betty Ruth Hatcher
January 26, 1937 - January 19, 2022
Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Betty Ruth Hatcher, 84, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. There will be a graveside service held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS. Pastor Jonathan Richey of SouthPoint Church in Southaven will officiate. Betty was born on January 26, 1937 in Winston County, Mississippi. She enjoyed oil painting and watching for cardinals, or “red birds”, from every window she had. Most of all, she loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. Betty, known affectionately to her grandchildren as “Memaw” was devoted to her family, especially doting upon her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never failed to send a card for every holiday, always enclosing a one dollar bill. Memaw was exceptional at keeping up with family heirlooms, from her childhood, through her life, then through the lives of her children, grandchildren and extended family. She was proud of these collections and all of things she accumulated that she felt held a fond memory, and was honored to share these keepsakes. Memaw leaves a joyous legacy with a wide community of friends and family, many of whom share fond memories of her wit and strength of will. Betty was a very loyal friend and confidant, and will be missed dearly by all of those that she befriended over the years. Betty is survived by sons, Michael (Mary) Hatcher of Olive Branch, James Randall (Sherry) Hatcher of Terry, MS; granddaughters, Lindsey (Luke) Uithoven of Greenwood, MS, Lauren Hatcher of Terry, MS; grandsons, Steve (Kim) Strickland of Olive Branch, Garrett (Megan) Hatcher of Brookhaven, MS, Shawn Hatcher of Olive Branch; great-granddaughter, Caroline Strickland of Olive Branch; two great-grandsons, Hatch and Jack Uithoven of Greenwood, MS and brother, Roy (Juanita) Cotton of Pearl, MS. The family would also like to extend their genuine gratitude to Macy White and Millie Jenson for their care and companionship in the recent months. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Hatcher; mother, Lillie Priscock Allgood; father, Roy Frank Cotton, Sr; and sisters, Lois Lewis and Diane Barfield. In lieu of traditional flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org). Online condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.colemanfuneralhome.com.
