Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Brenda Raines Baker, 57, passed away in Courtland, MS, on Friday, May 7, 2021. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 9, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. Bro. Daniel Minor will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Brenda was born to Durl and Fay Raines in Memphis, TN. After graduating college and obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree, she pursued a career in nursing. She married Steve Baker, and they shared over 30 years of marriage. Brenda is described by her family as being the most inspirational person that they knew. She was also very loving, caring, genuine, and her hospitality towards others was outstanding. She was considered the practical joker of the family who had a wonderful sense of humor, from cracking jokes to switching out campaign signs in her family’s yard. In recent months, with her battle with cancer, she still displayed her sense of humor and persevered through life. Her favorite place to be was spending time on the beach in Orange Beach. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. In her younger years, she held a great love for horses. In her teenage years, when she and her sister, Linda, didn’t want to get out of bed, her father would sing “You Are My Sunshine” to persuade them to get up. At that time, it was quite annoying, but now it is a special memory she and her sister hold tight to. Brenda is survived by her two children, Casey (Will) Sisk, of Senatobia, MS, and Jay Scott, of Little Rock, AR; her grandchildren, Georgia Ray Sisk and Baylor Sisk, of Senatobia; her siblings, Linda (Gene) Barnett, of Courtland, MS, and Roger Raines, of Como, MS; her parents, Durl and Fay Raines, of Batesville, MS; and two stepchildren, Will (Megan) Baker and Jeremy Baker, both of Oxford. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Steve Baker; her brother, Tim Raines; and her nephew, Heath Raines. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute (https://sarahcannon.com/about/sarah-cannon-fund.dot).
