Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Cora M. Jordan, 69, died on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, to Frank and Mary Ella Miner, Cora Jordan lived in a variety of different places, finally settling in Oxford, Mississippi in 1977. She attended Millsap’s College and received her J.D. degree from the University of Mississippi. A writer, attorney, and civil rights activist, Mrs. Jordan was a tireless advocate for equality and the elimination of the death penalty. Additionally, Mrs. Jordan was co-founder of the first Quaker Meeting in Mississippi (Oxford Friend’s Meeting). Surviving Mrs. Jordan is her daughter, Mary Beth Conklin of Lookout Mountain, TN; two sons, Michael Reilly of New York City, and Steven Reilly of Greeneville, TN; three stepchildren, Eliot Jordan of Berkley, CA; Josh Jordan of Davis, CA; and Mott Jordan of Santa Cruz, CA; one brother, Frank Henry Miner, Jr. of Olmstead, OH; and ten grandchildren. Her husband, Winthrop Donaldson Jordan, preceded Mrs. Jordan in death. Mrs. Jordan’s memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 3:00pm at Paris-Yates Chapel on the University of Mississippi campus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Interfaith Compassionate Ministries, 904 North Lamar Blvd., Oxford, MS 38655. Coleman Funeral Home assisted in local arrangements.
