Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements. Cortland Douglas Woodward “Woody”, 86, was cleared for heavenly departure on February 14, 2021. Woody was a born-again Christian and was dearly loved by many. He was born in Greensburg, PA, on April 30, 1934. He graduated from Greensburg High School and the Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics. As a U.S. Army Veteran, he served in the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY, and Augsburg, Germany. His career continued to his earning of a Master’s degree in Aviation Mechanics. If he was going to fly it, he wanted to know how to fix it. In 2016, he earned the prestigious Master Pilot’s Award after 16,500 accident-free flying hours as a corporate pilot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Woodward and Mary Jean Linhart Woodward; his brother, Bruce Woodward; an infant sister, Marcia Jean Woodward; his wife, Sara Black Woodward; his daughter, Diane Atkins; his great-granddaughter, Layla Rose Stamp; and his granddaughter, Brooklynn Rae Brown. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia (Burdick) Woodward; five daughters, Donna (Kent) Swanson, Carol (Dan) O’Neal, Linda (Michael) Criscione, Heather Honaker, and Jennifer Brown; seven granddaughters, Cortney (Nicholas) Bean, Meagan (George Clements) Swanson, Crista (Shawn) Morgan, Sara Stamp, Michelle O’Neal, Stephanie (Rich) Loewen, and Nicole Baxter; six grandsons, Tracy (Martha) Offutt, Matthew (Erica) LaCoe, Ryan (Cassie) Beyer, Hayden (Anna) Ball, Joseph Criscione, and London Brown; and 19 great-grandchildren, Venita Offutt, Victor Offutt, Vincent Offutt, Marcus LaCoe, Andrew LaCoe, Austin LaCoe, Jacob Bean, Zachary Bean, Kennedy Swanson-Clements, Sara Grace Loewen, Jessie Nicole Loewen, Elijah Loewen, Sydnee McKay Baxter, Skylar Ryan Beyer, Maisie Rae Beyer, Daniel Scott Stamp, Evie Jo Rose Stamp, McKenna Owens, and Terrell Owens. Woody was fascinated with aviation and playing the piano. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking in “Woody’s workshop,” spending time with friends and family, and traveling. His motto was, “Blue side up!” He was a friend to everyone and he will be missed by many.
