Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Gary Mayo, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Harmontown, MS on Saturday, March 27, 2021. A visitation will be held at Harmontown Baptist Church, Harmontown, MS on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. A private inurnment service will be held at Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN at a later date. Bro. Christopher Coury will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Mayo was born November 24, 1943 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Andy and Virginia Mayo. He served 4 ½ years in the Marines and was honorably discharged as a 100% disabled Vietnam Veteran. He ended his Marine career as a Corporal and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal of Service. After his military service, he had a career as a Freight Broker with Dedicated Logistic Services. Mr. Mayo was married to Diane Mayo and they were very active members of Harmontown Baptist Church. He loved going to church and loved his church family. Gary loved hunting, fishing and ATV riding – all things outdoors. Gary enjoyed traveling with his family and friends on many different excursions. Gary will be remembered by his family for being loyal, forgiving, and kind. He was a very giving Father who taught his sons to be hard working men of integrity. He was a man of God who believed in just doing the right thing. Mr. Mayo is survived by his wife, Diane Mayo; his three sons, Andy (Nikki) Mayo, Michael Mayo, and Gary (Cindy) Mayo; his stepson, Jodey (Allison) Gartrell; his stepdaughter, Michelle (Holland) Heath; his grandchildren, Andrew Mayo, Savannah Mayo, and Emma Grace Mayo; his sister, Becky (Steve) Wade; and seven step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Virginia Mayo; his first wife, Maureen Helen Mayo; his brother, Raymond Mayo; and his stepdaughter, Lisa Seale.
