Hazel Genera Nelson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Hazel Genera Parks Nelson, age 84, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, in Ridgeland, MS. Born in Lafayette Springs, MS, Mrs. Nelson had lived in the Jackson, MS, area since the 1950’s before moving to Clinton, MS two years ago. She was a retired cosmetologist who took pleasure in caring for her home, quilting, and gardening. Mrs. Nelson was affectionately known as “Granny Green Bean”. She volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and assisted with the church newsletter. Because she led an active life, attending the 9:03 Club at Northside Baptist Church, shopping, and eating out with friends for lunch were some of the things she enjoyed. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 12:00 noon.- 2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Stan Wilson and Susan Meadors officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Memorial Cemetery, Oxford, MS. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda (Ron) Hinson of Clinton, MS; one son, Bob (Sandra) Nelson of Belhaven, NC; one sister, Laura Parks Phillips of Randolph, MS; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, James Roland Nelson; her parents, Howard and Josie Parks; two brothers, William Ross Parks and Jack Parks; one granddaughter, Dana Nelson Lane.
