October 27, 1948 - March 11, 2022
Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Jane Marie Cromeans (Janie) surrounded by her family went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on March 11, 2022. Janie, most notably known as Mom and Mimi, left behind a loving family that will always remember her passion to live life to the fullest and have no regrets. Janie lived her life with a servant’s heart, always thinking of others and not herself. Janie was born October 27, 1948, in Tupelo, Mississippi and grew up in Red Bay, Alabama. Janie and John were married in 1968 and would spend the next 54 years in life’s journey together. Janie graduated from The University of Mississippi in 1970 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. In 1970 John and Janie moved to Birmingham, Alabama where they would reside for the next 44 years. Janie’s passion in life was always about teaching children and raising them in the eyes of Christ. She taught 1st grade in Odenville at Odenville Elementary for 12 years until she was blessed with her first, long-awaited and prayed for child, Catherine. Janie loved her role as a full-time mother to Catherine, and soon was blessed with her son, John III. Janie’s love for preparing hearts in Christ was exemplified by rocking the babies in the nursery, singing in the choir, chaperoning choir tour and serving as the interim Preschool Minister at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. In 2014, Janie was blessed to move to Oxford, MS to become a full-time Mimi to her grandchildren, Copey (2013) and Jack (2015). Janie enjoyed reading and was also an avid sports fan. She was a loyal Ole Miss Rebel, attending as many games as she could while in Oxford, and watched many Atlanta Braves baseball games through the decades. Janie is survived by her devoted husband, John William Cromeans Jr of Oxford; a daughter, Catherine Cromeans Burge (Rick) of Oxford; a son, John William Cromeans III (Erin) of Oxford; and two grandchildren, Leah Copeland “Copey” Cromeans and John William “Jack” Cromeans IV. Janie is preceded in death by her father, Eugene J. Copeland; mother, Lola Faye Copeland; and brothers, Johnny Eugene Copeland and Charles Michael “Mike” Copeland. Services will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. and the celebration of life at 2:00 p.m.; both held at Oxford-University United Methodist Church. Leading the celebration is Rev. Eddie Rester, Rev. Warren Black, and James Pace. Musical offerings provided by special family friend, Lynda Little.
