Mr. Brown was born on October 5, in Lubbock, TX. He grew up to be an incredibly selfless, giving, and good man with a large and loving heart. His witty nature and fondness for movies made Joe very fun to be around. Joe was a fundamental part of his family and an integral member of every community in which he belonged. He was an excellent uncle to his nieces and nephews and treated them all as his own siblings. Joe spent time with them, taught them life lessons, and was directly responsible for the respectable and productive people they each grew to be. They affectionately called Joe “Big Unc” because of his large impact on their lives. Joe supported and loved his coworkers and deemed them as his work family. Always willing to spend a moment caring for them, regardless of his own needs or energy levels. Even in Joe’s death his generosity was fully displayed, through organ and tissue donation. In the final act of his life he made a decision which saved one person’s life and helped over 100 other individuals, all of whom were strangers to him. Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Jeri (Vicente) Leyva of Horn Lake, MS; one niece, Lucia (Alex) Garivey of Horn Lake; three nephews, Sonny (Nicole) Leyva, Ricky (Brittney) Leyva, and Manny Leyva, all of Horn Lake; one step-sister, Dondi Jayroe of Lubbock; one step-brother, Terry (Suzie) Crews of Lubbock; 8 great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-nephew on the way. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Brown and Paula Brown; and his biological mother, Beverly McFarland. Donations and memorials in honor of Mr. Joe Brown may be made to the donor’s choice of either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate) or the Mid South Donor Services (https://midsouthtransplant.org/contribute/). Online condolences may be left on his Tribute Wall at www.colemanfuneralhome.com.
