Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mary Maudene Westmoreland Oliphant, 98, died at her home, Hermitage Gardens of Oxford, on November 21, 2012. A memorial service was held in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Water valley on November 24, with the Rev. Harold Sprayberry officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, MS. Born in the O’Tuckalofa community of Yalobusha County, she was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and was an elementary school teacher for 25 years. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Water Valley, she served as president of the Women in the Church and as a Sunday School teacher. She was devoted both to her immediate and extended families and enjoyed gardening and offering support to her husband and sons in their cattle and horse interests. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Leslie and Patricia Womble Oliphant of Mandeville, LA, her son, William Rayburn Oliphant of Oxford, her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and her caregivers at Hermitage Gardens. Her husband, James Leslie Oliphant, her parents, two brothers and three sisters, preceded her in death. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
