Growing up the daughter of a share cropper and a homemaker provided Nina and her siblings with a wholesome upbringing on a dairy farm just off of Highway 51. Stories of Nina’s childhood galvanized visions in the heads of her kids and grandkids that bare a resemblance to that of a Twain novel. Those stories left us all yearning for a simple, less hectic, and a more humble way of life. After graduating from Horn Lake High School, Nina settled down in Southaven and started a family, which expanded in love and numbers. Her family grew until it could no longer be contained by the home in which she raised her children and eventually where she spoiled her grandchildren. She was strongly devoted to her family, and every addition to the family kindled the pride and love that defined her. Nina always made sure to keep a yummy and usually messy treat for the little ones. Nina joined the work force in 1964. She had 30 years of service with the IRS before starting retirement from her management position. Nina balanced a demanding career while successfully raising two children who were very active in their electives. She managed to do it all as a single parent. Throughout her life she remained humble and generous. Nina was generous with her time by volunteering in the community (Southaven VIPs). She was generous with her assets by purchasing random servicemen their lunch or providing her family, friends, and neighbors things that she no longer needed as well as things she knew they were in need of. From her humble beginnings, she was no stranger to adversity and struggle which only seemed to strengthen her resolve. Mrs. McCraw leaves behind her daughter, Margie McCraw Windham (Greg) of Hernando; her son, George Hugh McCraw (Cristie) Of Hernand; one brother, Rick Payne(Pam) of Horn Lake, MS; her sister-in- law, Brenda Payne (Ray) of Southaven; her granddaughters, Gwendy Windham Rowland (Casey)of Nesbit, MS, and Madison Windham Bryant (Carter) and Maggie McCraw, both of Hernando; her grandsons, Mason Windham and Garrin Windham, both of Hernando, and Hunter Wigington (Janell) of Horn Lake, MS, and Lucas Wigington (Valerie) of Blue Springs, MS; and five great-grandchildren, Reese, Remi, and Rowdy Rowland, all of Nesbit, Marleigh Bryant of Hernando, and Journey Steen of Horn Lake. Mrs. Nina Fay McCraw was preceded in death by her parents, George Virginia Payne and Leaon Pearl Payne; two sisters, Georgia Payne Fowler and Betty Payne White; and one brother, Ray Payne.
