Peggy McCord Thomas Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Peggy McCord Thomas, 71, passed away Friday, August, 12, 2005, at her residence in Oxford, MS. Mrs. Thomas was born to Gilbert Audley McCord and Pearl Lucille Ransom on August 24, 1933. She married John Roy Thomas on January 27, 1950. Peggy was a people person who worked in the public for close to 50 years. She enjoyed meeting and making new friends where she worked. She retired from the State of Mississippi after employment at NMRC and the University of Mississippi. She was co-owner of P & T Quick Stop and worked at the meat market at Sunflower and James Food Center. Her favorite hobbies were fishing, her flower garden, crocheting & collecting frogs. Visitation will be held Monday, August 15, 2005, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in Coleman Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Cary Worthington officiating. Burial will be in Eastover Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by a daughter, Terrie Thomas Johnson of Hooks, TX; two sons, Rev. Kenny R. Thomas of Oxford, MS, and John T. Thomas and wife, Sherry, of Oxford, MS; her mother, Lucille McCord of Oxford; her grandsons, Stephen D. Johnson and Wesley Thomas; her grand-daughter, Brittney Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Stephen Thomas Johnson and Gabrielle “Bri” Johnson; and her beloved cat, Joe-Joe. She was predeceased by her father, Gilbert Audley McCord and her brother, Freddie “Jiggs” McCord. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association or to the charity of the givers choice.
