Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Robert Bernard Burton, 52, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at his residence in Michigan City, MS. Mr. Burton had moved to Michigan City, MS, as a child from Kansas and resided there the remainder of his life. He had been employed as a Benton county deputy sheriff for ten years and had also worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. Mr. Burton was a member of the North Benton County Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Slayden Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Friday, November 10, 2006, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Slayden Baptist Church in Lamar, MS. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at the Slayden Baptist Church with Bro. David Bishop officiating. Interment will be in Valley Grove Cemetery located in Michigan City, MS. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Burton is survived by his wife, Pat Burton of Michigan City, MS; two daughters, Beth Burton of Michigan City, MS and Cheryl Bullard of Ashland, MS; one son, Steven Burton of Michigan City, MS; four grandchildren. His parents, Robert B. Burton, Sr. and Ruth Ellen Dickerson Burton, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Heritage Hospice, 301 East Waldron, Corinth, MS 38834.
