Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Sallie H. Sledge, 78, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Primacy Healthcare & Rehab Center in Memphis, TN. Born in Pine Flat, MS, she had lived the majority of her lifetime in the Oxford area. She and her husband moved to Memphis in 2005 and quickly made new friends. Mrs. Sledge worked as a cashier at Jitney Jungle and Larson’s Big Star for many years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed many types of arts and crafts including ceramics and quilting. Mrs. Sledge attended Cherokee Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Coleman Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Father Bill Murray officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Hwy. 6 East, Oxford, MS. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include Jimmy Sledge of LaPorte, TX and Marquis (Rachel) Sledge of Oxford, MS; two sisters, Wilma Bratton of Independence, MS and Lavelle Littlefield of Oxford, MS; four brothers, Sam Hollowell of Water Valley, MS, James Berlin Hollowell of Oxford, MS, Shirley Hollowell of Memphis, TN and George Hollowell. Her parents, Leslie and Callie Hollowell, her husband, Jimmy Sledge, a son, Robert Sledge, and two brothers, Leslie “Bud” Hollowell and Gwen Hollowell all preceded Mrs. Sledge in death.
